POSITIVE DISCIPLINE

Connection Before Correction

A research-based approach that helps adults raise respectful, responsible, and resilient children through connection and encouragement.

Teaching Respect Through Relationship

We believe effective discipline isn’t about punishment—it’s about connection, respect, and mutual responsibility. That’s the heart of our program. It is a values-based, relationship-driven approach that helps children grow into capable, confident, and accountable individuals. Rooted in the work of Dr. Jane Nelsen and her internationally respected model, this program teaches youth—and the adults who care for them—that discipline can be both kind and firm.

Who It’s For

This program is for everyone who cares about raising respectful, responsible, and resilient children. We offer tailored training for:

Educators

Learn how to build a classroom culture rooted in mutual respect, where students are encouraged to reflect, contribute, and lead.

Parents and Caregivers

Gain practical, everyday tools to strengthen your relationships at home, set clear expectations, and guide your children with love and structure.

All Positive Discipline programming is led by Cohesion staff who are officially certified to teach and train through the Positive Discipline Association.

Program Overview

Part One:

Introduction to Positive Discipline

This session introduces the core principles of Positive Discipline—connection before correction, mutual respect, and solutions over punishment. Participants learn how discipline can build children’s social-emotional skills and sense of belonging while still holding them accountable.

Part Two:

The Framework in Action

We walk participants through real-world tools and strategies they can begin using immediately. Through role-playing, group activities, and reflective discussion, educators and parents learn how to:

  • Encourage rather than reward
  • Use mistakes as learning opportunities
  • Foster responsibility through logical consequences
  • Invite cooperation instead of demanding compliance

Part Three:

Customized Coaching and Support

We recognize that every school, classroom, and home is different. That’s why we offer flexible implementation support tailored to your setting—whether it’s staff training for educators, parent workshops, or one-on-one coaching.

Our team will work with you to adapt the program to meet your goals, address specific behavioral patterns, and ensure long-term success.
